Custom Orthodontic Care for Kids
How soon should your child see us?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children begin to consult with an orthodontist at age seven, although it never hurts to bring your child in a little earlier to evaluate their growth. If it looks like they aren’t ready, we’ll just see them again 6 months later at no cost to you. Staying on top of it is key because before the age of eight, we have a window of opportunity to take action and solve a problem orthodontically and potentially minimize treatment in the future!
At the first visit, we’ll take a look at your child’s overall facial balance and symmetry, count their teeth, take any X-rays necessary (feel free to bring the latest ones from your dentist!), and get to know each other—especially what dental treatment the child has had, what’s been indicated in the future, and what we can do to prevent future problems.
If a short phase of treatment can significantly reduce the complexity of later treatment or prevent problems from developing, then we’ll consider a less complicated start such as braces on a few teeth, space maintainers, or a palate expander to widen their smile.
Either way, we are here to offer guidance for your son or daughter’s journey to a new smile.
Common options for kids:
- Traditional braces
- Clear braces
